"RATS & BULLIES" Receives Esteemed WOMEN IN FILM Completion Grant
WOMEN IN FILM recognizes the importance of developing pathways and opportunities to encourage current and future generations of women to explore and pursue careers in all fields of the entertainment industry. The Women In Film Foundation's Film Finishing Fund (FFF,) awards a cash and/or in-kind grant to those selected films which are chosen to receive the annual award, to assist those Filmmakers in the completion of their film.
WOMEN IN FILM has chosen to recognize RATS & BULLIES, the tragic and gripping feature documentary which explores the realm of bullycide and female relational aggression, told through the true-story of 14 year old Dawn-Marie Wesley, who hung herself with a dog leash after repeated threats and bullying from three teen girls at her school. In her suicide note, Dawn-Marie named the three girls who had tormented her. The incident sparked a police investigation that culminated in a landmark court case where the three girls were made to stand trial.
WOMEN IN FILM has awarded a completion grant to Roberta McMillan, who is the Co-Writer, Co-Director, and Co-Executive Producer of RATS & BULLIES, for her efforts to bring this important and powerful issue to the public eye. RATS & BULLIES is one of ten selected films chosen to receive this distinguished award for WOMEN IN FILM's Year 2004 FILM FINISHING FUND GRANT.
